The April ride was on Wednesday 30th and started from Sao Marcos de Serra, meeting at the O Cantinho dos Caçadores on the IC1.
The ride suggested by Roy West was a tour of the barragens around Silves so that we could see the amount of water that has recently been added by the heavy rain and storms of recent times, and check out the water levels.
Many people will not have seen these high levels in the years they have been living here in the Algarve.
There were a couple of heavy showers early in the morning which obviously put off a few riders who were expected to take part, but failed to arrive at the start.
Before it was time to set off the clouds soon disappeared and the roads dried very quickly leaving a perfect day for motorcycling around the twisty roads to the Odelouca, Funchal and Arade barragems. Roy led the first group with assistance provided by Ralf Illig, Huw Chivers, Tus Gentes, Johannes Klein and Phill Anderson.
Lunch was at restaurant O Foral near Tunes. The members enjoyed a lunch choice of chicken curry, red fish from the oven, and beef stroganoff. Thank you to Carlos and the staff at the restaurant who still managed to provide us with a very nice lunch, even though we had difficulty in giving them accurate numbers due the unforeseen absence of some riders, and the difficulty in communications caused by the power outage suffered by Portugal and Spain.
Now with the weather improving and higher temperatures we can look forward to yet more enjoyment on the quiet roads of the Algarve and Lower Alentejo.
